The 11th annual MSU-Northern Athletics’ banquet took place on Wednesday night at the S.U.B. The night was filled with honorees from the 2023-24 sports calendar. Coaches from the respective teams drafted statements reminiscing about the squads that they had the opportunity to be at the helm for.
After each coach’s statement was read, the “Outstanding Athlete” was announced, and they received a certificate of achievement. For the MSU-N Lights football team, senior linebacker Dylan Wampler garnished the honor. The volleyball team selected junior middle blocker Alana Graves. Junior Jaden Koon was selected by the cross-country team as its most outstanding athlete. The Skylights basketball team chose senior forward Ryley Kehr to be its most outstanding athlete. Senior Zack Martinez was the MSU-N Lights basketball recipient for most outstanding athlete. The MSU-N wrestling team chose junior All-American Rylin Burns as the most outstanding athlete this year. Finally, the Northern golf team picked senior ShaAnn Danelson to be the team’s most outstanding athlete.
Montana State-Northern chancellor Greg Kegel then presented select seniors of each team with parting watches for their efforts the last few years. Wampler, Colter Szymoniak, Dominic Paribello, Titus Pulliam, Caymus Thomas, and Joshua Rose were the football seniors honored. Hallie George was the lone volleyball senior this year. Five MSU-Northern Skylights basketball players came up to receive watches: Kehr, Danelson, Jalen Callender, Sydney Hansen, and Dulci SkunkCap. Martinez and Myles Dalton were the senior leaders of the Lights’ basketball team, while NaKoda Siegel and Carl Hansen captained the wrestling team. Finally, golf’s lone senior was the only recipient for two different sports and that was Danelson.
