The Fall Season returns Monday for all new and returning students attending classes at MSU Northern and this weekend is the last of the fanfare before classes start.
MSU Northern Chancellor Greg Kegel says there is plenty to welcome students back to campus this weekend, with events that are as back to normal as possible.
“With the events I’ve kicked off already, we’re hoping that we’re as close to back to normal as we can be. They’re in the residence halls and student housing. I’ve had them up to the Chancellor’s house. Gave them a welcome and gave them a little bit of advise going into this year. We are going to progress as normally as we can with the constraints that we have with the pandemic still going on. But we’re still going forward with that.”
Kegel says students he has encountered feel like orienting to Havre and the Hiline has been pretty smooth.
“Northern is such a situated in such a welcoming community that the students I’ve talked to instantly feel like they are welcome here and they belong here. We try to do our part to make sure that they feel the choice that they made to be here was the right one.”
Kegel does says a good percentage of the students at MSU Northern are involved in sports, or sports programs and the quality of the educational program.
“Without question, we have 15 to 20% of our students are involved in some type of athletics. With those students, I would say it is the athletic program that brought them here. But the rest of those students, would be place-bound and just the fact that Northern exists in this region would probably be a factor it is closer and more convenient and didn’t have the wherewithal or the means to travel further away.”
Welcoming activities sponsored by the campus foundation are this weekend. Fall semester begins Monday, August 29th.
