HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The dust has settled from the 2019 Great Northern Fair and the totals from Hill County’s 4-H Livestock sale have been calculated. Hill County Extension Agent Jasmine Carbajal says they sold 79 animals this year.
“For our beef, the average was $2.87 per pound. Lamb was $5.22. Our swine were $3.34 per pound and our goat, we had one goat that sold at $4.25 per pound.”
Carbajal said a major change this year was using a different meat processor.
“We had, of course Bear Paw Meats there and then we had Tizer out of Helena. So that was a big change. We did make arrangements for those buyers that picked Helena, Tizer Meats, we had our 4-H leaders arrange transportation to the meat processor. So then, we will let them know once that comes back so they can pick up their animals at the Chuckwagon.”
Carbajal says that all of the money they raise go back to the 4-H kids that raised the animals and some save that money for college.
