Havre Chosen for New Strength Training Program

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre has been selected as one of six locations in Montana to participate in a collaborative research study called Strong People Strength Training Program: A Community Based Randomized Trial. The MSU Extension office says that the study will examine the effects of a twice-weekly strength training program on health, including heart disease and diabetes, as well as the functional fitness of midlife and older adults.

Half of the individuals recruited from Havre will be randomly selected to participate in the program this fall and the other half will participate in the program in January. This program will meet for about an hour on Mondays and Thursdays for about 3 months. Participants will learn and practice good progressive strength training for improved individual health.

They are seeking men and women over 50 who would like to become more active and increase their strength. Participants can earn up to $60 for completing the study and will be given blood results and physical activity assessment results after the survey ends.
