HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – This week, Secretary of State Corey Stapleton announced the awarding of HAVA Election Security Grants to Montana’s counties. A press release says the funds are part of a federal appropriation to update and improve security in elections. a $750,000 subgrant was made available to all Montana counties to share in the replacement of antiquated voting equipment or supplement current voting equipment.
The grants will help counties buy the new ExpressVote voting system, which will be easier to manage for the election judges and a benefit to voters with disabilities.
Hill County will receive over $14,000, Blaine County will receive about $10,500, Liberty County will get almost $5,300, Chouteau County will see over $14,000, Phillips County will get over $3,500, and Fergus County will get over $12,300.
