Northern Stockgrowers Livestock Workshop, Competition is Saturday

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – This weekend, the Montana State University-Northern Stockgrowers will be hosting their 2nd annual Livestock Workshop and Competition. Member Luke Rech says registration for the workshop starts at 9 AM at the Northern Agricultural Research Center near Fort Assiniboine south of Havre on Saturday. Registration for the competition starts at 11:30 AM.

“Within the competition, it’s going to be strictly cattle judging event. So, we’ll have a couple different classes. We’re going to have two classes of feeder steer calves, two classes of heifer calves and then we’ll have a couple sets of replacement heifer calves.”

Rech says they wanted to provide an educational workshop to help teach people what the judges are looking for.

“With the workshop, we just want an analysis from the judges and how they would look at judging these cattle and these animals. So, especially the younger kids have an idea of what to look for if they haven’t already been involved in livestock judging, but also just different perspectives for those that have been involved in livestock judging and done this before.”

The cost to attend either the workshop or competition is $10, or $15 for both. For any questions, call Rech at 605-850-9886.
