U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Steve Daines celebrated a major step forward towards finalization of a U.S. trade agreement with Japan on Wednesday.
“Wednesday’s announcement is a big win for Montana ag and jobs, and a major step forward for opening critical markets for our producers,” Daines said. “It has been a privilege to be the voice on Montana’s farmers and ranchers during trade negoiations between the U.S. and Japan. I’m happy to see President Trump and Prime Minister Abe announce they reached a deal that will help level the playing field for Montana farmers and ranchers.”
Key benefits to Montana will include; reduced tariffs on fresh and frozen beef and pork, provide country-specific quota for wheat and wheat products, and reduce mark-up on imported U.S. wheat and barley.
When implemented, Montana farmers and ranchers will be able to compete on a level-playing field with Trans-Pacific Parntership (TPP) competitors in selling to the Japanese market.
