FORT BELKNAP, Mont. (NMB) – The winter weather on Election Night has caused a delay in counting the votes on the Fort Belknap Indian Community. A press release says that the Fort Belknap Police closed all roads on the reservation for travel, except U.S. Highway 2 and State Highway 66. Those roads are recommended for emergency travel only.
The Chief Judges at each polling place would normally complete tallies of ballots submitted at each polling place, then travel to the Fort Belknap Agency to meet as the Election Committee and complete certification of the election results. Because of the weather and road conditions, the judges from Hays and Lodge Pole are concerned about travel and will not be required to go to the Fort Belknap Agency.
The Election Committee is planning on meeting at 11 AM at the Fort Belknap Agency on November 6th to certify the 2019 Election results.
