HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – On Saturday, fifteen local children will participate in the Havre Police Department’s 5th Annual Shop with a Cop program. Police Sergeant Jesse Eller says they were able to open the program up to five additional kids this year and they received about $500 more in donations this year compared to previous years.
“We picked, this year, it was 15 kids. So we send out applications to the schools and the teachers give them to kids that they feel need some help with the holidays. Whether they’ve had a bad experience with law enforcement or just the family’s having some trouble.”
Eller says that they start the day with breakfast with the officers at the police station
“We take them out to Walmart and Walmart donated $2,000 and we had other people bring in money. And we shop for the kids and their families. And, from there, we go to Pizza Hut. Pizza Hut donated pizza for the kids. And then we go to the Boys and Girls Club and we wrap presents with them.”
Eller says the program is designed to give kids a positive experience with law enforcement. He wants to thank the community for their donations that make the event possible.
