GREAT FALLS, Mont. (NMB) – On Friday in US District Court in Great Falls, a jury convicted a Fort Belknap man for assaulting and strangling a woman in April 2019.
Jordan Alexander Werk, 32, was found guilty of felony assault by striking, beating, or wounding and of felony strangulation. The jury acquitted Werk on the charge of felony assault on a dating partner resulting in substantial bodily injury.
During the trial, the prosecution said Werk assaulted the woman in Lodge Pole by grabbing her hair, throwing her to the ground, kicking her in the chest, punching her in the head and choking her.
The victim was treated for injuries that included a broken rib at a Harlem hospital.
The case was investigated by Fort Belknap Tribal Law Enforcement and the FBI.
Werk faces a maximum 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the strangulation charge.
Sentencing is set for June 3.
