HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Republican gubernatorial candidate Dr. Al Olszewski and his running mate Sen. Ken Bogner are spending this week traveling across much of the Hi-Line.
Olszewski and Bogner were in Havre on Monday and spoke with New Media Broadcasters about their campaign.
Olszewski’s family has homesteaded in Blaine County for generations, and he says protecting the agricultural industry is a top priority.
“We work hard, we produce a crop, and then the market may fall out. So Ken and I are both on the Senate Ag Committee. We’ve had to make decisions that affect our families and our cousins. We will do everything we can to promote our number 1 economy, which is agriculture.”
Olszewski has been in the Montana legislature as both a representative and a senator, and boasts of his firmly conservative stances. But one area where he says his stance differs with his opponents is in regards to water compacts such as the proposed one regarding the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.
“Which is going to create an aboriginal water compact that is off-reservation. It affects all of my voters. What we believe is that water rights should be followed by our constitution, and our constitution says the water belongs to all of the people of Montana. Not just to a select few.”
