HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Earlier this month in U.S. District Court in Great Falls, Mexican citizen Josue Bermudez-Lopez was sentenced after pleading guilty to Transportation of Illegal Aliens.
Bermudez-Lopez was arrested near Cut Bank in November as a driver of a smuggling event consisting of 19 individuals.
Two other defendants, Alberto Guillen-Gordillo, 23, and Samuel Velasco-Tovar, 28, also pleaded guilty to the same charge earlier this month for their roles in the smuggling.
Court records say that on November 17 at 11:15 PM, Border Patrol agents conducted a traffic stop near the Canadian border in Glacier County. More than 15 passengers were in the two vehicles stopped, and all admitted to being in the U.S. illegally.
Bermudez-Lopez was sentenced to four months with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and may be subject to deportation proceedings once his sentence has been served.
Guillen-Gordillo and Velasco-Tovar face a May 5 sentencing.
