HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Valley County Health Department is providing emergency Neighbor Cards for seniors and high-risk individuals to display in their windows for immediate assistance.
Administrative Assistant and Prevention Tobacco Specialist Teri Long said it’s especially helpful for those living alone because each card color has a different meaning which helps everyone know if you are okay or need help.
“On the neighbor cards it shows green and it says, ‘I’m okay’ and the yellow one says, ‘I need help’ – it could be groceries or supplies or something and then the last one says, ‘Help’ and that means you must call 911 for immediate assistance.”
Long said the red cards also display symptoms that inform responders to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
The health department hopes to continue this service even after COVID-19 because the packets also provide phone numbers for grocery stores, pharmacies and other essential services for adults without Internet access.
“They intend to keep it even after we get through the virus so people will know what they need. Because some of our older people live by themselves and they can’t get out to go to the grocery store.”
