HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The North Central Montana Everything Antique Show that was scheduled to take place at the Great Northern Fairgrounds this weekend has been canceled.
Mark Weston is one of the organizers of the event, and says a major reason they made the decision to cancel last month was in the interest of public health.
“It was a pretty easy decision. To take care of not only the elderly people that come to visit us for the show, and also our members, we have a couple that are up there in age. And we didn’t want to see anything happen to them, we’d like to keep the rest of them around.”
Weston says even with the traveler quarantine being lifted, the fact that the 4H Chuck wagon remains closed would have made it difficult to hold the show.
“Some people were hoping that we would change our minds. But y’know, the 4H was such a big part of our show. They took care of all of our food needs, our coffee, our breakfasts. Without having them, that kind of hurts our show too, because it’s a good place to gather up there.”
The show this year was supposed to be a tribute to Richard Skyberg, a North Central Antique Enthusiasts member that passed away last October. Weston says that tribute will be held at next year’s event.
The group is a non-profit of antique enthusiasts, and Weston says the group won’t be hurt financially by the cancelation.
“The sponsors that we have, that cover our posters and our t-shirts and stuff, have already paid this year. We’re just going to move that sponsorship to next year. So we’re really not going to be impacted financially at all.”
A date for next year’s antique show has not been set, but it expected to take place the first weekend of June.
