HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Governor Steve Bullock and Montana No Kid Hungry awarded $108,550 to local Montana school districts and nonprofit organizations to help fight hunger.
Bullock said, “We are grateful for the many diverse and innovative food programs that continue to support families throughout every corner of our state. As Montanans try to balance work, family and personal needs during this time we can’t forget that nutritious food is the foundation to it all – a basic need that must be prioritized.”
The hunger relief funding awarded the Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line $5,000 and Director Tim Brurud said they couldn’t be happier.
“It means a lot. We’ve been serving a lot of meals since the whole COVID-19 thing started. I think we looked the other day and we served over 26,000 meals over the 62 days that we’ve served, which is almost double what we normally serve. So, we’ve really had to step it up.”
Brurud said they plan on using the money not only for extra storage but for to-go food supplies as well.
“So, we’re going to use the money for some extra storage. We get deliveries once a week and we’re serving twice as much food so we gotta have a place to put it. And then serving it to-go has some different things with it. So, there’s plastic containers and Styrofoam containers and all the things we need to package it so that people can just pick it up.”
The Boys & Girls Club will be serving meals Monday through Friday from 4-5 p.m. all summer long to anyone under the age of 18.
