FORT BELKNAP, Mont. (NMB) – Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in Blaine County and Fort Belknap, the Fort Belknap Reservation has announced that a complete 14-day shutdown will begin at 11:59 PM on Friday night and run through 11:59 PM on October 16th.
This will better allow health officials to catch up on contact tracing and ensure compliance with quarantine and isolation guidelines.
Out of area travelers will be restricted from Fort Belknap during the shutdown, with no exceptions.
Only essential travel will be permitted. This is defined as short travel for food and supply shopping as well as emergency travel.
Fort Belknap residents who commute to work off the reservation are encouraged to limit contact on these trips and follow safety measures.
Fort Belknap residents are discouraged from transporting youth to school sports practice to assist with reduction in community movement during the shutdown.
Aaniiih Nakoda college is closed for in-person learning, and no labs will take place.
Hays-Lodgepole and Harlem Schools are closed with the exception of their to-go school lunch program.
Indian Health Services is moving to emergency visits only for in-person services.
Fort Belknap has reported 17 total COVID-19 cases, 14 of which are actives.
