HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen was in Havre earlier this week to tour the Montana State University-Northern campus.
While on campus, Arntzen spoke with several University officials, including Chancellor Greg Kegel and discussed the ways her office can help improve career tech programs at high schools and work with Northern to help establish clear affordable pathways into their programs.
“(Chancellor Kegel) has put a lot of energy and effort into having the community and the state believe that building a world class ag program, as well as a plumbing program, and of course diesel mechanics. For a two year program for a student to enter in the embrace of MSU-Northern and guided by professionals, guided by individuals that have come from the private sector, as well as those that are teachers that are teaching them. It’s a great partnership. And then, not only do they get a diploma and the skillset they need, they then get to choose who their employer is.”
While in Havre, Arntzen also promoted the OPI’s new Stars & Stripes initiative, a partnership with the American Legion with the goal of making sure there is an American flag in every classroom.
