COUTTS, Alberta (NMB) – The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have announced the recent seizure of over 500 pounds of meth at the border with Montana.
A press release says that on December 25th at the Coutts, Alberta border crossing, just across from Sweet Grass, Montana, officers referred a semi-truck hauling produce for further inspection. That’s when authorities uncovered 503 pounds of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of over $22 million.
This is the CBSA’s largest ever meth seizure at a land border crossing.
The driver, 38-year-old Amarpreet Singh Sandhu of Calgary, was turned over to local police and is facing charges related to controlled drug distribution and trafficking.
Singh has a court appearance scheduled for February 11th in Lethbridge, Alberta.
