HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Officials from Hill County and the City of Havre met on Wednesday afternoon to continue discussions on changing the boundary of Rural Special Improvement District No. 10 so that it better reflects the area impacted by the dike.
In a unanimous vote, the County Commissioners approved a motion to begin the process that would end with the revising of the southwestern boundary of the RSID. They are reaching out to the County Attorney to figure out the next steps they need to take.
Nothing is imminent, but steps that could be taken include sending letters to impacted property owners, calling a public hearing, and crafting a formal resolution.
The Milk River Levy is in need of multi-million dollar repairs in order to maintain compliance with the Army Corps of Engineers’ standards for flood protection. This process will take years and the County is working with the Corps, FEMA and others to figure out exactly what repairs are needed. Expanding the RSID could provide a source of some of the funding, as could several grants that the County plans to apply for.
