HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – During the monthly Hill County Officials meeting on Thursday morning, it was announced that a new MSU-Extension Agent will be joining the county starting on Monday.
Colleen Buck has been hired as Hill County’s Ag/4-H Extension Agent. She has been working as an Extension Agent in Sheridan County, located in extreme northeastern Montana. Buck is filling the position vacated when Tom Allen stepped down at the end of December.
No announcement has been made regarding any potential hires of a Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Agent. That position has been vacant since Jasmine Carbajal left at the end of September in order to be closer to her family.
Other items discussed at the meeting:
- The Hill County Weed & Mosquito District has been awarded a $40,000 grant from the Browning Kimble Foundation for a noxious weed control project.
- DES Coordinator Amanda Frickel says there was a small mineral oil spill on Airport Road earlier this week. The spill was five gallons in size and has been cleaned up.
- Health Officer Kim Larson says 21 percent of eligible county residents are now fully vaccinated for COVID-19, with a total of 6,800 doses administered. In terms of COVID cases, one case of a variant from California was recently confirmed by the CDC. This is the only confirmed case of a COVID variant and Hill County, and the case has since recovered. The Health Department is working on making their website mobile-friendly.
- Treasurer Sandy Brown is working on preparing mobile home billing for property taxes. These will go out in April and will be due by the end of May.
- Commissioner Diane McLean says the County continues to hope they can come to an agreement with Havre on an agreement for them to cover Rural Fire District 1 before the current agreement expires on June 30th. Failure to come to a new agreement could mean higher fire insurance rates for those living in the District which surrounds Havre.
