HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A journeyman lineman with IBEW and class of 1999 Havre High School graduate, Jacob Ingram says he is running to be a Trustee with the District because he wants to represent a portion of the community that he believes has been ignored during the pandemic.
Ingram has advocated for moving back to a five days a week of in-person learning schedule throughout the pandemic, and even presented a petition last fall.
“I actually attended multiple school board meetings and I called school board members and wrote school board members. I actually presented a petition at a school board meeting that was signed by 382 community members that wanted kids back to school.”
The petition was presented when the District made the decision in the fall to move to a hybrid learning model where students learned in person two days per week.
The District moved to four-days a week of in-person learning in late January, and the elementary schools have just moved to a full five-day school week.
Ingram says his other main priority is to make face coverings optional at the District, citing the lifting of state and county-wide regulations and arguing that science has not reached a consensus on the issue.
“I’m very passionate about those two (priorities). Everything else that comes down the pipe, I will have to put in the time and the research. I know a lot of board members that I will use to get information from. So basically everything else that comes down the pipe, I’ll just have to do my research and due diligence to make the best decision that I can.”
Ingram is a father of two and his wife used to work as an English teacher at the District.
Ingram is competing against four other candidates for two open three-year terms on the School Board. The mail-in election is set for Tuesday, May 4th.
