Two Victims in Southern Montana Mining Accident Identified

NYE, Mont. (NMB) – The Stillwater County Coroner’s Office has identified the two people who died in a mining accident last Wednesday in southern Montana.

The victims were Sibanye-Stillwater Mining Company employees Dale Ketola, 65, of Columbus, Montana; and Jerry Ashlock, 55, of Caldwell, Idaho.

They were both declared dead at the scene of the accident, which occured underground at the Nye Mine Site at around 2 PM.

Sibanye-Stillwater Vice President Heather McDowell says that the two victims were in a side-by-side that crashed into an underground locomotive.

An investigation is reportedly underway to determine the cause of the accident.
