HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Hill County Commission held their weekly business meeting on Thursday and voted to kickstart a project that could bring in gravel to improve rural roads.
The Commission voted unanimously to request the distribution of state government funds thanks to the Bridge and Road Safety Accountability Act (BaRSAA) that was passed in 2017 by the State Legislature.
The Commission also voted to put out an invitation to bid to hire a company for the project, which is to crush and stockpile over 20,000 tons, or 4,000 yards, of gravel in the Joe Horel Pit, which is off West Box Elder Road in the western portion of the county.
The state government will be providing $151,939.38 towards the project, while the County is putting in a 5 percent match of $7,597.
Commissioner Diane McLean says it is her hope this project could be done swiftly, with the gravel potentially crushed and piled by the end of the summer.
Commissioner Jake Strissel said this project is badly needed and will allow for the improvement of deteriorating rural roads.
