HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly exacerbated the digital divide in Montana, which is why the State Library has invested in a hot spot lending program to help Montana libraries help their patrons in need.
Every public and tribal college library in Montana is eligible to receive hot spots that they can use as they choose to help their communities.
To be able to use a hotspot, a patron needs to be within range of a cellular tower and needs to have an Internet ready device such as a computer, laptop, tablet, or smart phone.
The State Library intends to pay for all costs related to this program through the end of September. After that, libraries may choose to continue the service and have the data plans transferred to them.
The Havre-Hill County Library is among those participating in this program. They have a total of 11 hotspots available to be checked out.
