HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees has scheduled a special meeting for this Tuesday at 6 PM at Havre Middle School.
Superintendent Craig Mueller says that he will recommend the extension of the State of Emergency Declaration through June 30th, 2022, or until terminated by a vote of the Board of Trustees.
However, Mueller says he will also recommend a change to school board policies in order to make face coverings optional instead of mandatory when social distancing cannot be maintained. In addition, Mueller recommends the removal of all references in the policy to temperature screenings and removing references that playground equipment cannot be used.
Mueller writes that this recommendation would allow them “to continue providing flexibilities to those who have been impacted and may continue to be impacted by COVID-19,” and that it “allows the district to continue to operate within the guidelines set forth in Montana Code and within parameters of Montana law.”
Also at the meeting, Mueller will recommend the approval of the Safe Return to School and Continuity of Services Plan. This plan outlines steps the District has taken during the pandemic and outlines polices that will continue to be applied during the upcoming school year. Mueller says the plan is for a return to a school year as “normal” as possible this fall.
Changes to the plan could be made between this meeting and the next regular scheduled meeting in July.
The meeting will be available on Zoom, but public comments can only be provided in person.
