Candidates for Chouteau County Municipal Elections Finalized

FORT BENTON, Mont. (NMB) – The nomination deadline has passed for municipal elections in Chouteau County.

For the position of Mayor of Fort Benton, Lanny L. Walker will take on Joseph E. Curl. Incumbent Richard D. Morris did not file for re-election.

For a seat representing Ward 1 on the Fort Benton City Council, incumbent Dyke Kalanick was the only candidate to file.

For a seat representing Ward 2 in Fort Benton, incumbent Merlyn Scott was the only candidate to file.

For a seat representing Ward 3 in Fort Benton, the three candidates are Natasha Heiken, Todd James Galbaugh, and Vern Anderson. Incumbent Shireen Clark did not file.

The only people to file in municipal elections for Big Sandy were all incumbents. Shaud Schwarzbach filed for Mayor, Jon Sheehy filed for Ward 1 on the town council, Colby Baumgarn filed for Ward 2, and Kristyl L. Kulbeck filed for an unexpired two year term for Ward 2.

For the town of Geraldine, Kathy L. Bond was the only candidate to file for Mayor. Incumbent Perry W. Joyce did not file for re-election.

For two positions representing Ward 1 on the Geraldine Council, eight candidates filed. They are:

  • Tammey A. Ludeman (incumbent)
  • Anita B. Klein
  • Amy Hooper
  • Darci Hooper
  • Virginia L. Johnson
  • Mike Qunell
  • Shaya Clark
  • Perry W. Joyce (the current Mayor)

The other incumbent in the Geraldine Council race, Karen A. Fairbanks, did not file for re-election.

Although the nomination deadline has closed, people can still enter races as a declared write-in until through August 30th.

All races are non-partisan.

The only race where a primary is likely is for Geraldine City Council, due to the large number of candidates. That primary will take place on September 14th.

The general election is scheduled for November 2nd.
