FRENCHTOWN, Mont. (NMB) – A 26-year-old Missoula woman has succumbed to injuries suffered in a multi-vehicle crash on Friday night on I-90 east near Frenchtown.
The Montana Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred at 10:53 PM at mile marker 93, when the woman, who was driving a Kia Forte, attempted to pass a Chevy Equinox in the left shoulder. The Forte collided with the left rear of the Equinox, lost control and ran off the left side of the roadway. The Forte continued traveling eastbound in the median until it dropped down across Loiselle Lane, struck an embankment and caught fire.
The woman was the only occupant of the Forte, and it is unclear if she was wearing a seatbelt. She was transported to a local hospital but died due to the injuries.
The occupants of the Equinox, a 60-year-old man and 61-year-old woman from Metamora, Ohio, were not injured.
Drugs, alcohol and excessive speed are all suspected factors in the crash.
