HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The wind associated with Sunday afternoon’s severe storm caused issues across the Hi-Line, including a fire that destroyed an outbuilding west of Havre.
The Havre Fire Department received a call at 5:52 PM at the 8000 block of 1st Street West after a downed power line caused a grass fire to start.
The fire was contained to about 1/4 of an acre, but a privately owned outbuilding in the area was a total loss.
Around 11 personnel responded to the scene, bringing one pumping engine, one pickup engine, and two tenders. Firefighters remained at the scene until about 11 pm to ensure the fire would not spark back up.
Havre Fire Chief Mel Paulson says they were “really lucky” to be able to contain the fire with the strong winds, as there were other structures within about 100 feet away from the fire.
