HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Following requests from Governor Greg Gianofte and Montana’s Congressional Delegation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has authorized the use of some Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres for emergency haying and grazing.
Gianforte says this authorization will greatly benefit farmers and ranchers, but he is urging the USDA to go a step further and open up all of Montana’s participating CRP acreage to local ag producers.
Gianforte is also continuing to urge the USDA to declare every county in Montana a primary natural disaster area due to the ongoing drought.
