Highway Patrol Trooper Awarded Medal of Valor

HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Amanda Villa has been awarded the Medal of Valor from the state Department of Justice for her life-saving actions following a helicopter crash near the site of the Deep Creek Fire near Townsend.

On June 15th, a Department of Natural Resources and Conservation helicopter crashed and tipped over in Broadwater County. Villa was nearby conducting a roadblock and helped four passengers of the helicopter safely exit the burning aircraft, and also rendered aid.

The personnel of the aircraft were released from the hospital within hours of the incident after being cleared by medical professionals.

The Medal of Valor is the agency’s highest honor. It was presented to Villa by Attorney General Austin Knudsen on Monday at a ceremony in Helena.
