YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK (NMB) – A 20-year-old woman from Washington state suffered significant thermal burns between her shoulders and feet on Monday at Yellowstone National Park when trying to rescue her dog from a 200-degrees-Fahrenheit hot spring.
The woman was transported to a burn center and her condition is not known. The dog died of its injuries.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of Fountain Flat Drive south of Madison Junction on Monday afternoon. Park Officials say that the woman went into Maiden’s Grave Spring to retrieve her dog after it jumped out of their car.
The incident is under investigation.
This is the second significant injury in a thermal area at the Park this year. The first occurred last month at Old Faithful.
