Cascade County Sheriff: Threat Against Belt School Not Credible

BELT, Mont. (NMB) – The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office says that Belt School was briefly ordered to shelter in place on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 6th due to a call from an anonymous individual threatening “another Sandy Hook.”

The Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect as a woman in her 30s that resides in Ravalli County. A press release says she suffers from a serious brain disorder and Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder.

The Sheriff’s Office says they are not immediately pursuing charges due to the complexity of the woman’s condition, the fact that she resides several hours away, and because she is not capable of furthering any act of violence.

Forms of communication had been taken away from her by caretakers, but she was allowed to use a tablet while under quarantine with COVID-19.

The message was sent via tablet, and the caretakers have taken it away to prevent her from contacting anyone else.
