HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen has announced his office is filing an appeal with the state Supreme Court following a recent decision in Yellowstone County District Court that halted the implementation of four new laws restricting access to abortion while a legal challenge is heard.
The laws would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks gestational age, require providers to offer ultrasounds before an abortion, ban delivery of abortion-inducing medications through the mail, require providers to report new data to DPHHS, and add additional requirements for patients seeking a medication abortion earlier in pregnancy.
Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit in August arguing the laws violate the right to individual privacy guaranteed in the state’s constitution.
A spokesperson for Knudsen says halting the implementation of these laws “deprives women and unborn children of commonsense health protections.”
