ZORTMAN, Mont. (NMB) – The Bureau of Land Management has announced that their North Central Montana District fire and fuels program staff have completed burning of about half of the woody debris piles during prescribed fire operations on Thursday, December 9th at Camp Creek near Zortman.
However, for safety, fire management officials decided to postpone the burning of the remaining piles until another favorable burn-weather opportunity occurs.
The burn was initially expected to be completed by December 10th.
The pile burn consists of about 25-30 acres of ponderosa pine hand piles created during a multi-year hazardous fuels reduction project.
The BLM says this burn is promoting forest health by creating a shaded fuel break near the Camp Creek Campground.
