HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Red Kettle campaign of the Salvation Army of Havre is experiencing a a lack of donations, a shortage of bell ringers, and has received only a third of the donations to the program compared with last year.
Trina Crawford, administrator for the Havre Salvation Army services office, says that they are in desperate need of donations if they want to reach their $39,000 goal.
“We were trying to shoot for the $39,000 for next year because I think the needs are going to be even higher because of COVID and everything that is going on in the world right now. ”
The Red Kettle program helps the Salvation Army Office of Emergency Services provide a multi-layer whole person approach to helping people with their needs and the money from this holiday season helps them figure out to budget next year’s services.
“So, it is so important for us to reach that $39,000 goal because of the needs of people in the community. What we do in emergency services is we help people with rental assistance, we help people with maybe getting into a place, we help people with transportation.”
Crawford said even this late in the season, they are unable to fill every position to have bell ringers in designated stores.
“We are definitely struggling to have all of the time slots filled.” says Crawford. “Our time slots go from 10:30-12:30, 12:30-2:30, 2:30-4:30, and 4:30-6:30. We are definitely having a hard time making sure those slots are filled at our locations.
Crawford says they are willing to pay someone to work at the Wal-Mart location because it is outside and it is extremely cold.
