HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A 47-year-old Havre man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after Police say he caused a hit and run and led law enforcement on a brief pursuit.
Joshua Ian Beaumont is facing pending misdemeanor charges of Driving Under the Influence (undetermined level – refused to test), careless driving, driving with a suspended license, fleeing or eluding, resisting arrest, obstructing a Peace Officer, and failure to give notice of an accident.
Havre Police Sergeant Justin Gomke says at 4:34 PM, their Department received a call from a male reporting a hit and run. The male began following the suspect vehicle, a white Ford Focus, and law enforcement located it on 16th Avenue West near Havre Middle School. A Hill County Sheriff Deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over, but it would not yield.
A brief pursuit ensued, and a few minutes later, the Focus pulled into a parking lot at the Hillview Apartments.
There were three other passengers in the vehicle, one of which – 32-year-old Collette Marie Stiffarm of Havre – was arrested because they had a Havre City Court misdemeanor warrant.
The vehicle that was initially hit by the suspect vehicle was a white Ford pickup, and Gomke says its rear driver side bumper pushed into the fender.
The Ford Focus suffered front end damage.
There were no injuries or other damage caused due to the incident, according to Gomke.
Both Beaumont and Stiffarm were in custody in the Hill County Detention Center as of Thursday morning.
