HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The third week of the spring semester is underway at MSU-Northern, and Chancellor Greg Kegel says things have been going well so far.
As of late last week, Kegel said they have yet to see any significant impacts on campus due to the latest COVID surge impacting the area, but they are keeping an eye on the developing situation.
“I feel really good about the prep that we’ve done up until now with getting as many people vaccinated as we possibly can. That has helped. We’ve put together a really good set up for testing students and faculty and staff, so that we know what our numbers campus-wise are, and that’s helped. We’ve set ourselves up so that when people are in isolation or quarantine, they can still, if they are well enough, do the work that they need to do. And in setting them up, we’re doing a lot of that remote.”
Kegel says they are anticipating the COVID surge to be at its peak locally over the next few weeks, and he will continue meeting on a regular basis with the COVID team he has put together.
“We’re probably bracing a little bit as to what that’s gonna mean,” said Kegel.”
Kegel says student enrollment is at similar numbers as last year.
“We know that we’re down total numbers across the university system. A lot of that is attributed to the virus and what we’re dealing with socially. But as far as where we are today, I think we’re doing okay.”
