HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana State News Bureau reports that the Montana Highway Patrol will be paying a Wyoming man $270,000 in a settlement after a Trooper ran him off the road.
The incident occurred in August 2017, when a Trooper made a U-turn on the interstate near Miles City in front of Mitch Burgess’ pickup truck. The truck was moving at a high rate of speed and swerved into a ditch to avoid a collision.
Burgess alleged that the incident left him with a concussion and a spinal injury.
The case was set to go to trial before the settlement was reached. The settlement is not considered an admission of liability.
District Court Judge Kathy Seeley previously ordered sanctions in the case after MHP said they lost video footage of the crash. The footage was later found.
