HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre’s City Council met Monday night before an empty room in City Hall.
The Council reviewed their yearly Audit report with Tony Gerharz from Wipfli over the phone to discuss their findings. Gerharz said that the City had a clean audit, however, due to a new accounting standard, they did adjust the City’s liability by about $2 million when it comes to certain programs.
The Council also approved the Hill County Clerk and Recorder to conduct mail ballots for the 2019 elections. One seat from each City Council ward will be up for election, as well as the City Judge’s seat. They also approved the Clerk and Recorder’s request to have the ballots formatted so they can be counted by the machines. They say there is an additional cost of about $1,500 for each election, but believes that it will save the City money in reduced hours for the election judges and other staff.
The Council also approved an ongoing grant to the Havre-Hill County Historic Preservation Commission for $5,500 per year.
At the end of the meeting, Public Works Director Dave Peterson said that they have had to hire contractors this year to help deal with this recent cold snap, which is an extra cost to the City. He says that they number of water line breaks has slowed since last week, but they are still dealing with several feet of frost under the roadways, with about a foot or so of frost in yards with snow cover.
