WASHINGTON D.C. (NMB) – In a news release, the White House has announced that seven Tribal colleges in Montana have received a combined $34 million in COVID-relief funding through the American Rescue Plan.
Stone Child College in Rocky Boy has received over $4.3 million, Aaniiih Nakoda College in Fort Belknap received over $3 million, Fort Peck Community College received over $4 million, and Blackfeet Community College received nearly $5.2 million.
In addition, Montana State University-Northern received over $3 million as a minority-serving institution.
Funds were provided through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund over the past year.
At least half of the funds must be used to provide direct financial relief to students.
The American Rescue Plan was signed by President Joe Biden in March 2021 after it passed through Congress. Senator Jon Tester was the only member of Montana’s congressional delegation to vote for the bill.
