Snowmobiler Rescued after Breaking Femur

WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. (NMB) – Gallatin County Search and Rescue has announced the rescue of a snowmobiler who broke their femur after striking a tree about 14 miles west of West Yellowstone.

Dispatch in West Yellowstone received a call at 1:43 PM on Sunday from another member of the snowmobiling group reporting the incident.

The group was able to immobilize the injury and stop the bleeding until volunteers from Search and Rescue could arrive. The injured snowmobile was air lifted via helicopter to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Centrer for further evaluation.

Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer says the snowmobilers should be commended for carrying a reliable means of communication and providing appropriate medical care while awaiting medical assistance.
