CASCADE COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Highway Patrol reports that a 19-year-old man from Helena was killed in a single vehicle crash in Cascade County on Wednesday afternoon.
The crash occurred at 6:45 PM at mile marker 266.3 of I-15 South. The man was driving a Ford Focus southbound when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle steered or drifted into an unprotected median.
The vehicle traveled in the median relatively straight for about 200 yards before striking a bridge pillar head on.
Tire marks in the median showed the driver failed to brake or take an evasive maneuver prior to impact.
The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased on scene. It is unclear if he was wearing a seatbelt.
Excessive speed is a suspected factor in the crash. The road was dry.
