(Havre) – This Fall the Office of Public Instruction is launching the first year of the three-year Montana Alternative Student Testing (MAST) Pilot Program. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen spoke with New Media Broadcasters and explains how the MAST Program works.
“We went ahead to the Federal Government and asked if we could do something a little bit different, which means then that we will have very small ten-minute testlets six times a year in math and reading.”
The first year of the MAST Pilot Program features fifth and seventh grade students. Superintendent Arntzen tells us how this testing will benefit teachers and students.
“The teacher then will get some understanding of what needs to be taught up front, and then the teacher afterward, and the prudent will convers about what really happened.”
Forty-Six Montana School districts are taking part in the MAST Pilot Program the first year. Area districts participating include Box Elder, Fort Benton, Geyser, Harlem, Havre, Malta, Power, Shelby, Stanford, Turner, and Winnett
