The Big Sandy Pioneers have won the “6 Man” Football State Championship with a dominant 67-27 win over Broadview-Lavina. The Pioneers had lost the previous 3 years in the semi-finals, before achieving their championship goal. The Pioneers had over 450 yards of total offense, averaged almost 10 yards per play, and forced 6 Pirate turnovers on their way to the title.
In a previous interview during the week leading up to the game, Head Coach of the Pioneers Larry Jappe said with the cold weather they plan on running the ball more. Well, that couldn’t have been further from the truth as Pioneers Quarterback Braydon Cline threw for 231 yards and 6 TDs in what was an amazing game. The coach wasn’t completely fooling the media though, as Running Back Cooper Taylor ran for 168 yards and 3 TDs himself. The WR trio of Lance Rutledge (112 yards; 2 TDs), Braydon Cline (56 yards; 1 TD), and Rusty Gasvoda (9 yards; 1 TD) helped make life easy on their Quarterback. To top it off the defense held Broadview-Lavina to almost half of their total yardage with 237 and forced those 6 turnovers previously mentioned.
Congratulations to head coach Larry Jappe and the Big Sandy Pioneers on an amazing undefeated season.
