The Northern Cheyenne tribe was recently awarded nearly $53 million in a grant from the Internet for All Initiative through the US Department of Commerce. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration oversaw the award and is made possible through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The project is expected to connect more than 1700 households with high-speed internet, needed in learning, work, and telehealth functions. It proposes to install fiber directly to the households, providing broadband at 10 Gigabytes per second symmetrical connectivity to the people of the Northern Cheyenne tribe in the Lame Deer area.
The award was one of 18 announced, at a total of over $224 million dollars to help Native communities to receive affordable, reliable, high-speed internet.
The FCC also provides for a $30 per month discount on qualified households toward internet service, and up to $75 per month for eligible households on qualifying Tribal lands. For more information on the high-speed internet programs, visit the web at internetforall.gov.
