Among the notable findings of USDA’s latest edition of its “Rural America at a Glance” report, is a change in rural population numbers over the last two years. Rod Baine and Jim Davis of the Economic Research Service have the details.
“Jim Davis of the Economic research service with the finding from this year’s edition of USDA’s Rural America at a Glance Report. The uptick in rural population was noteworthy in that in the ten years between the 2010 census and the 2020 census annual population growth rates were either zero or slightly negative. So overall for that decade we found a decrease of about a half of a percent in population. Overall rural population as of July last year was at over 46 million people. Other findings from the report: an aging rural population, a shift in job growth by category, and a more diverse rural population over time.“-Rod Baine and Jim Davis
