The Havre Boys Basketball team is on Christmas break after starting the season 4-1.
Head Coach Waylnn Burgess reflects on how his team was able to start the season on a high note.
“There’s a few factors. They really started to play well together. If you come watch our games, you can see that all of our guys don’t care who scores, they’re excited for everyone else scoring and I think that makes us pretty tough. I feel like we have nine, ten dudes that can step into a game and score. We’ve been harping all year on our defense, and I think it’s really starting to get through to them that they can be a really good team, they just have to focus on that defensive end. Everyone loves to score, but the really good ones love to stop people. We’re really trying to buy into that mentality this half of the year.” – Burgess
Coach Burgess also touch on what he would like to see his boys improve on in the second half.
“There’s always stuff we need to get better at like our decision making. Sometimes we’ll get into lulls of a couple minutes of bad possessions, not getting back on defense or a turnover. Something like that, that really affects us. That will come with growth. The older the kids get, the more games they’ll have under their belts, you’ll start to see the basketball IQ improve. Just really looking forward to that these next couple of weeks. Lot of that and stuff improving.” – Burgess
