The HER Campaign works to rehabilitate victims of human trafficking in Montana. Brittney Higgs the non-profits co-founder explains the greatest need that she is seeing in the state of Montana regarding human trafficking.
“So currently what we are seeing is the greatest need in our state is more emergency placement. So last year in 2022 we had 70 survivors call us looking specifically for emergency placement, and due to our current bed capacity, we were only able to serve 31 percent of those survivors. So, for us what that means is our work is cut out for us. We need to really do our emergency shelter well to then be able to expand it to other cities in the state of Montana because we see this as a need.” -Brittney Higgs
She continues to explain the challenges with expanding their emergency placement services.
“So, some of the challenges that we see is……funding, we’re always working towards more funding so that way we can create more bed space for these survivors. This is also a tough job, coming alongside people in crisis intervention and stabilization, it’s a tough job. It takes 24/7 care to really be able to operate this well. So, we’re always looking for staff that are equipped and ready to step into this, and those two things are pretty much the main things that we see when it comes to barriers of growing and expanding.” -Brittney Higgs
