(Big Sandy) – Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks has completed an Environmental Assessment on eliminating Goldfish from a pond in Big Sandy. Steve Dalbey Regional Fisheries Manager for FWP in Glasgow, explains the issue and why it is a problem.
” It’s a pond out of Big Sandy. It’s about, It’s less than an acre and a half pond. It’s on private land. As is typical, as we find commonly across the region, goldfish were illegally introduced at some point and time, we don’t know when but they’re naturally reproducing in the pond and that’s a threat to not only the water in the pond but downstream waters flowing out of the pond. We do not want naturally reproducing goldfish in those drainages.“-Dalbey
