HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Friday was a busy day in the Montana Legislature, but Democratic Representative for Havre Jacob Bachmeier made time to talk with a few local residents at Northern Montana Hospital.
Hill County Commissioner Diane McLean relayed opinions from the Clerk and Recorder’s Office on some bills that would affect them. McLean said they are still hoping the bill that would allow them to open and count mail-in ballots sooner will pass, along with an increase in the cost of birth and death certificates. McLean also stressed how much that office is against a bill that prohibit courts from suspending people’s drivers licenses in order to get them to pay their fines. She says that the alternative to force people to pay those fines would be to arrest them, which would be a bigger burden on the county.
Bachmeier said that Hanna’s Act died in the Senate, before he was called away to cast his vote on the Medicaid expansion bill.
